This two-session experience will expose you to the basics of welding and teach important shop safety principles which will enable to you design and create a piece of artwork for your landscaping or garden. You will create an instructor-led project during the first session and get ideas for a personal project that you will make during the second session. The instructor will provide examples of decorative metal sculpture pieces created from everyday steel “junk” like old wrenches, ratchets, shovels and sawblades. Some time will be spent during the first session to look through college provided scrap metal, discuss design possibilities and think about additional scrap or items that you will need to bring to the second session of class. The second session will provide opportunity for students to receive assistance in creating a unique piece of metal sculpture from their collected treasures. Fee includes safety glasses and use of personal protective equipment.
